Phoenix Book Award Unveiling

Celebrating Student Designs and Bentley’s California Young Readers Medal Award Participation.

In library class, students are concluding their participation in the 2024 California Young Readers Medal Award, a statewide book competition judged by California students. In grades K-3, students read the five nominated Picture Books for 2024 and voted for their favorite this week.

In 4th and 5th grades, students explored the three nominated books for the category "Picture Books for Older Readers," and students' votes will be submitted to the CYRM official website. The winning titles will be announced in April. These same students also delved into the design elements of children's book award stickers like the Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, and others.

They then created an award sticker for each category, honoring the books that earned the most votes from Bentley students—our very own Phoenix Book Award! Congratulations to Kate T. for her winning design, which will adorn the covers of the two winning titles to be announced soon. Kudos to all students who submitted their designs for the book award, marking the beginning of our annual tradition.
