3rd Grade’s Novel Research Project Explores Civil Rights: From MLK Jr. to the Black Panther Party and Malcolm X
As part of the 3rd grade’s novel research project, students delved deeper into their understanding of MLK Jr. and civil rights by exploring the Black Panther Party and Malcolm X. Using keyword searches on kidzsearch.com, they investigated the core principles of the Party, focusing on improving education, justice, housing access, community safety, and ending police brutality. The students also compared and contrasted the work and lives of MLK Jr. and Malcolm X, sparking insightful dialogue about the differences in their approaches to resistance.
Now transitioning to their new novel, One Crazy Summer, set in Oakland in 1968, students bring a solid understanding of the historical context, allowing them to make inferences, connections, and predictions based on the background knowledge they've acquired.
