Whose skull is it anyway?

Students in the All About Animals electives had an opportunity to observe, categorize, and compare primate skulls this week.

Thanks to Ms. B, Bentley has become part of an interscholastic resource exchange, and we were able to borrow replica skulls from Orinda Intermediate School.

The detail preserved in the plastic casts made from actual skulls was amazing to see. Students were asked to compare various features, like the brow of each species, and relate those features back to the human skull. A bonobo, a chimpanzee, an orangutan, a gorilla, and a gibbon were all in the lineup. Also found in the mix were two mystery skulls – just to stir up some great conversation!
