Last Friday, the 8th grade returned from a wilderness adventure to Pinnacles National Park!
We could not have asked for a more picturesque backdrop. If you have ever visited Pinnacles, you know it does not disappoint. From caves with flying bats to serene reservoirs with friendly squirrels, rocky creek beds with horned toads, main roads with tarantulas, and basecamps with overly confident raccoons, we were constantly kept on our toes. From building tents to learning how to make s’mores, this outing included a lot of firsts. Star gazing away from the city lights was particularly impressive.
Along the journey, tentmates and trail groups took responsibility for everything from gathering water and serving meals to cleaning up communal dishes. There was a lot of teamwork and a lot of laughter. Student gratitude for the program, and each other, was abundantly evident when they shared out at the start and close of each day.
