Seven Questions and Answers from our new first-grade teacher, Ms. Fry.
Q: Where are you from, and what were you up to before you landed at Bentley?
A: I grew up on the Peninsula side of the Bay - in Palo Alto. I then spent seven years on the East Coast (in Pennsylvania and then in Boston) for college and grad school. After I had enough of the cold and digging my car out of snowbanks every winter, I decided to move back to California where I started my teaching career. Before Bentley, I worked at several different schools serving a wide range of ages and students. I’m THRILLED to be teaching 1st grade at Bentley.
Q: Can you tell us about your family?
A: I’m very lucky to have my whole family very close by: My mom, dad, and sister’s family all live in Marin. My husband, our 15-month-old son (August), and I live in Richmond with our dog (Lady), so it’s just a short drive over the bridge to visit with them - which we do often. My whole family are avid SF Giants and Standford Football fans, and we enjoy traveling together.
Q: What's the best part of being a teacher, in your opinion?
A: The connections and relationships I develop with my students each year. I love learning from them as much as I love getting to teach them new things and find new ways to challenge and excite them in the classroom.
Q: How do students usually sum you up in just three words?
A: Creative, Supportive, FUN
Q: If you weren't teaching, what other gig could you see yourself rocking?
A: I’ve always dreamed of opening my own bakery. I would name all my cakes/cupcakes/cookies after family and friends who inspired the recipes or who I typically would bake them for. That, or I would be an event planner.
Q: When you're not working, what's your go-to way to chill?
A: Go on a hike/walk, or listen to an audiobook while on a hike/walk - usually getting outside in some way!
Q: What's that one meal you absolutely can't get enough of?
A: Dessert! Always! And brunch. Or Sushi? I can’t decide.
